Fluid rate: 1.79 mL/hr

Example 2

A 3-month-old ferret weighing 1.9 kg needs a maintenance rate of IV fluids. What is the fluid rate in mL/hr?

Solution

Fluid rate: 3 kg x 1.9 mL/kg/day
Fluid rate: [3*1.9] mL/day / 24 hr
Fluid rate: [(3*1.9)/24] mL/hr
Fluid rate: 0.24 mL/hr
