Example 1

A drug has a concentration of 15 mg/mL and is dosed at 30 mg/kg. Determine two simplified dose rates for this drug. (Separate the answers by a space!)

Solution

Two simplified dose rates: 15 mg/mL x 1 kg/30 mg
Two simplified dose rates: 1 mL/[15*(1/30)] kg and 30 mg/kg x 1 mL/15 mg
Two simplified dose rates: [30*(1/15)] mL/kg
Two simplified dose rates: 2 mL/kg

Example 2

A medication has a concentration of 25 mg/mL and is prescribed at 50 mg/kg. Calculate two simplified dose rates for this medication. (Separate the answers by a space!)

Solution

Two simplified dose rates: 25 mg/mL x 1 kg/50 mg
Two simplified dose rates: 1 mL/[25*(1/50)] kg and 50 mg/kg x 1 mL/25 mg
Two simplified dose rates: [50*(1/25)] mL/kg
Two simplified dose rates: 2 mL/kg

Example 3

A solution has a concentration of 40 mg/mL and is administered at 20 mg/kg. Find two simplified dose rates for this solution. (Separate the answers by a space!)

Solution

Two simplified dose rates: 40 mg/mL x 1 kg/20 mg
Two simplified dose rates: 1 mL/[40*(1/20)] kg and 20 mg/kg x 1 mL/40 mg
Two simplified dose rates: [20*(1/40)] mL/kg
Two simplified dose rates: 0.5 mL/kg
